Layla May Arthur (1999 Jersey) graduated Cum Laude with Honours from Minerva Art Academy, Groningen in 2021. She currently works as an independent artist from her studio in Groningen, The Netherlands.
Working exclusively with paper, Layla’s work is refined and delicate, transforming paper into enchanting landscapes which play with patterns and motifs. Layla’s inspiration starts with her material and is influenced by designs she finds in architecture, textiles and artisan crafts. With meticulous craftsmanship and an exceptional eye for detail, Layla explores the possibilities of paper and leaves her audience fascinated with her paper crafting techniques.
In 2023 she was awarded the prestigious Mondriaan Fund for young artists, followed by a grant from Stichting Stokroos in 2025. Alongside her independent practice, Layla has collaborated with numerous international brands and institutions, creating large-scale installations, set designs and public artworks. Clients include Rituals, The Macallan Whisky, Vogue, among many others.
Layla began exhibiting her work while still a student at Minerva and has since participated in solo and group shows internationally. Highlights include PROSPECTS at Art Rotterdam (2025); the International Paper Biennale at Museum Rijswijk, the Netherlands (2022); Paper Dialogues at the American Swedish Institute, USA (2022); the International Paper Triennial at Musée de Charmey, Switzerland (2020); and the International Lucca Paper Biennale in Italy (2022). In 2024 she presented her largest body of work in a solo exhibition at Arthouse Jersey, Jersey.
