Roland deJongOrlando

Roland de Jong Orlando (1961, The Netherlands) is an established sculptor who has been active since the early 1990s. He graduated in 1990 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and lives and works in Burgerbrug. His work is firmly rooted in the tradition of geometric abstraction and Concrete Art, in which form and structure exist independently, without reference to external reality.

Throughout his career, De Jong Orlando has developed a distinctive sculptural language based on systems, modular construction and mathematical principles. Using repetition, variation and subtle shifts in proportion and angle, his sculptures explore rhythm, balance and spatial development. Although rational in origin, his works reveal a dynamic quality that unfolds as the viewer moves around them.

He frequently works with Corten steel, whose rough, oxidized surface enhances the physical presence of his precisely constructed forms and creates a powerful dialogue between mass, light and space. This material choice is particularly effective in large-scale and outdoor works.

Roland de Jong Orlando has held solo exhibitions in Slovakia, France, Italy, Hungary and the Netherlands, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Europe, as well as in the United States, Mexico, the former USSR, Belarus and Egypt. His work is represented by monumental public sculptures in Poland, Italy, Costa Rica, Mexico, France and the Netherlands, and is included in important public and private collections, including the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art, Dallas, and Museum Modern Art Hünfeld, Germany.
