Luminosité verticale is a unique medium size contemporary modern sculpture painting relief by French-Dutch artist Olivier Julia. The relief is made from blue-painted textured wood with gold leaf and is part of his explorations of panel type objects.
Well known Dutch art historian Jaap Nijstad wrote about his panel works: “The mutual and reciprocal influence of the colours is more dominant in [his] panels. Saturated colours, also applied layer upon layer and sometimes in combination with gold leaf, make these works the most colourful of his spatial work.” And more specifically about the Luminosité series he wrote: “Wall objects in blue and gold leaf, strictly within a plane, the gold bands glowing and defined in a rhythm. Simple horizontal and vertical lines offset in the depth: wealth and sobriety at the same time. The block, geometric abstract but with the passion of Trecento, is an invitation to contemplation.”
